Illinois Gun-Ban Governor Pours $1.2 Million Into Texas Governor’s Race

JB Pritzker signed one of the nation’s most sweeping bans on commonly owned firearms and standard-capacity magazines. Now he’s spending big to pick who governs Texas.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, the billionaire Democrat who banned commonly owned semiautomatic rifles and standard-capacity magazines in his state, has poured $1.2 million into Gina Hinojosa’s campaign for Texas governor.

According to The Texas Tribune, Pritzker gave $1 million in the latest reporting period, bringing his total to $1.2 million, according to Houston Chronicle reporting. The Democratic Governors Association’s PAC added another $1 million.

That money is landing in the final days of the race between Hinojosa and Gov. Greg Abbott, with Election Day on Tuesday, November 3.

Texas gun owners should be asking one question: why is the governor who spent years restricting the Second Amendment in Illinois spending seven figures to choose the next governor of Texas?

Pritzker’s Gun-Control Record Is No Mystery

On January 10, 2023, Pritzker signed the so-called Protect Illinois Communities Act.

The law bans the sale and purchase of a long list of semiautomatic firearms that Illinois labels “assault weapons,” including AR-15-style rifles, the most popular rifles in America.

It also bans the sale of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds for long guns or 15 rounds for handguns, with limited exceptions. The standard 30-round AR-15 magazine is caught in that ban.

Pritzker didn’t stop at future sales. Illinois residents who already owned covered firearms had to file endorsement affidavits with the Illinois State Police by January 1, 2024, to keep them legally.

In plain terms, law-abiding gun owners had to report their rifles to the government just to keep property they already owned.

Pritzker isn’t hiding from any of it. His campaign website celebrates banning “assault weapons” and “high-capacity magazines” as a signature accomplishment.

What an Illinois-Style Agenda Would Mean for Texas

Texas has gone the other direction. We have Constitutional Carry for eligible adults, protect ownership of commonly used semiautomatic rifles, and impose no Illinois-style limits on standard-capacity magazines.

Pritzker’s model would put all of that at risk: bans on America’s most popular rifles, limits on standard magazines, and registration requirements for guns Texans already own.

These aren’t hypotheticals. They are laws Pritzker signed.

A governor can’t rewrite Texas gun law alone, but the office sets legislative priorities, holds veto power over legislation, and shapes the direction of the state. That’s exactly the power Pritzker is paying to influence.

Don’t Illinois Our Texas

Illinois shows how fast lawfully purchased firearms can become subject to bans and government registration requirements.

Pritzker made Illinois gun owners register covered rifles. Now he’s paying to pick Texas’ next governor.
